The film is an absolute must see. It is a serious film about painting that will make you smile. The sound of Richter’s squeegee is addictive. This film almost replaces the endless collection of articles on the abstract part of Gerhard Richter’s oeuvre. His interviews and diaries are also all well known and archived in catalogues. To see the painter in action and talk in a very simple straight forward way is a much need addition. The DVD version of the film contains also the film ‘The Cologne Cathedral Window’ from 2007, a short film from the late 1960s (‘In der Werkstatt’) and an interview with Hans Ulrich Obrist.
